TEANECK ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION QUARTERLY REPORT
SHOWS PROJECTS MOVING FORWARD
The Teaneck Economic Development Corporation has achieved many of its goals that were set by the new Board in January 2008. During the First Quarter of 2008, the TEDC reorganized and selected new Board Executives including FDU Director of Athletics David Langford as Chairman, local property owner/developer Stuart Polinsky as Vice Chair, NYC Construction Executive Terry Mack-Hunter as Secretary and business owner Larry Bauer as Treasurer.
The Board, which has new members from different commercial areas and professional backgrounds, has made progress in numerous ways that are helping to sustain and support already existing businesses and encourage new businesses.
Since January, the TEDC has been working to make it easier to find information on businesses. A web developer is now working on the full-serviced website Teaneckbiz.com. Drafts of information, selection of information, architecture and design of the site were completed in the first quarter. Research and compilation of essential data for several major lists that will help inform those seeking to use or do business in Teaneck was also completed during first quarter. The all-Teaneck business list is now up to 1000 businesses that have been called, verified and categorized for use on the website. This will continue to grow as the home-based businesses provide their information. The Teaneckbiz.com website will have the most comprehensive directory of Teaneck Businesses that has been compiled.
The first complete Township listing of open commercial properties and commercial properties for sale in Town was compiled this quarter. New township demographics were upgraded by the TEDC.
The Incubator Committee of the TEDC met several times during the quarter to research different types of business incubators and has made decisions on direction, vision, and next steps in the process of developing this important resource for small business owners.
The TEDC has worked with the Board of Education and Administration to spearhead the business involvement in the new Renaissance program, an achievement incentive program for Teaneck High School students.
The TEDC continues to reach out to national and regional companies to encourage them to move to Teaneck.
The Teaneck Road Business Community Alliance has continued to meet and the TEDC's work on the upgrade of eight Teaneck Road intersections called the Teaneck Road Futurescape is now out for funding and grants.
Over a dozen new businesses were photographed and welcomed. The Arts programs such as Festival of the Arts and the Teaneck International Film Festival have been helped by TEDC marketing support. And a new town wide facade program was drafted by the TEDC and is now being refined by a Township Council committee which includes local architects.
"The TEDC is making it better for business here in Teaneck. Our vision is changing and we are now able to focus clearly on improving Teaneck's commercial areas at many levels," said Chairman David Langford.
